"Dixie's Land" originated in 1859 by Daniel Decatur Emmett, and its pride of the Southern US states quickly took hold as the unofficial anthem of the Confederate States during the US Civil War. The song later became seen as patriotic and is still widely used by marching bands around the country, including within the US Armed Forces.
