Swollen ankles and swollen feet are conditions characterized by abnormal distention of the ankles and feet.
• The bones of the ankle and foot form the distal region of the lower limb. These bones are responsible for balance, and support of the body’s weight through many activities, such as walking, running, standing, and jumping.
• Swollen ankles and swollen feet are common and usually not a cause for concern, particularly in cases of minor injury.
• However, ankles and feet that stay swollen or are accompanied by other symptoms could be signs of a serious underlying health problem that requires prompt medical attention.

CAUSES
Here are some of the reasons why a person’s ankle and feet may appear swollen:
• Trauma to the ankle or foot. The most common is a sprained ankle
• Pregnancy. This swelling is due to increased pressure on the veins and fluid retention
• Preeclampsia, a serious pregnancy complication in which high blood pressure and protein develop after the 20th week of pregnancy or immediately after birth.
• Edema
• Alcohol
• Venous insufficiency, a condition in which blood inadequately moves up from the legs and feet up to the heart.
• Infection. People with diabetic neuropathy and other nerve problem of the feet have an increased risk of infection affecting their feet
• Blood clots
• Lymphedema, a condition in which lymphatic fluid gathers in the tissues as a result of problems with the lymph vessels.
• Heart disease or heart failure
• Kidney disease
• Liver disease such as cirrhosis
• Lifestyle factors such as wearing ill-fitting shoes, having a sedentary life, walking or standing for long periods
• Obesity
• Certain medications including antidepressants, steroids, medications to help manage diabetes, birth control pills, calcium-channel blockers that help control blood pressure.
• Nutritional deficiencies
• Bone and tendon conditions
• Hormonal imbalance
Seek immediate medical attention if swollen ankle and feet is accompanied by chest pain, a pressure in the chest, shortness of breath, severe headache, upper abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting or fever

SYMPTOMS

Symptoms depend on the underlying causes and may range from:
• Painless increase in foot and ankles size
• Redness of skin around the swollen area
• Warm skin around the swollen area
• Ulceration with pus drainage
• Achy legs
It is of great importance not to ignore any type of swelling. The European Society of Cardiology in a 2015 report stated that one in five people will develop heart disease, but most don’t know that the first two symptoms of heart failure are swelling, starting at the feet and moving up through the ankles.

Today's video covers foot drop and ankle dorsiflexor strengthening exercises that can be done to help correct this issue. The ankle dorsiflexors are located on the front of the shin and act as the antagonist to the calf muscles (plantarflexors). They play an important role in the walking (gait) cycle and are responsible for two primary actions during gait, which include:

1. The dorsiflexors are activated when contact (heel strike) is first made with the ground. As the heel hits, this group must contract eccentrically in order to allow the foot to be set down smoothly. Weakness of the dorsiflexors during this task creates the ‘foot slap’ phenomenon as the foot falls quickly and slaps the ground.

2. The dorsiflexors are activated a second time as the foot is picked up and swung forward in preparation for a new step. These muscles must dorsiflex the ankle, so that the toes do not catch on the ground. In situations of dorsiflexor compromise, the toes may catch, which is termed ‘foot drag’, and may cause the individual to trip and become injured.

Besides gait issues, the dorsiflexors are often implicated in more common orthopedic issues such as shin splints, tendon disorders and more severe low back cases (L4 level) that can be associated with dorsiflexor weakness and foot drop.

If you are experiencing either dorsiflexor fatigue and/or foot drop or drag, give these exercises a try. If you are experiencing complete muscle paralysis, you will need to speak with a practitioner about implementing other interventions, like electrical stimulation, as these exercises will most likely be impossible to perform.

How Do You Spot Numbness in Your Foot?
• The most obvious symptom of numbness in the feet is losing sensation in them. They are highly sensitive, and they will become less so due to the problem.
• This, in turn, will affect your sense of balance and will begin to impede your daily life.
• Beyond that, you may also feel some other abnormal sensations in your feet, which include:
• Tingling in some parts of the feet without any contact.
• A prickling sensation.
• A feeling that your feet are being pushed at by a needle.
• Weakness in the feet.
• Pointing these additional symptoms out can help your doctor diagnose numbness in your feet.
What Causes the Numbness?
• The numbness is caused by abnormalities in the nervous system. The nerves may be damaged, blocked, or affected by an infection. They may also be compressed by your muscles.
• However, if the numbness is not temporary but chronic, it may be caused by an underlying medical condition, such as:
• A herniated disk.
• Chronic alcohol abuse.
• Diabetes.
• Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
• Frostbite.
• Lyme disease.
• Guillain-Barre syndrome.
• Multiple sclerosis.
• Morton’s neuroma.
• Sciatica.
• Peripheral vascular disease.
• Peripheral arterial disease.
• Injury to the spinal cord.
• Shingles.
• Inflammation of the blood vessels.

What it cuboid syndrome?
Cuboid syndrome is the dorsal or plantar subluxation of your cuboid bone. This is another way of saying you have a dislocated cuboid bone. It is unlikely that the cuboid bone is broken, but more likely that a sprain of the cuboid or the ankle ligaments has occured. It is also more common in flat feet and overpronated runners.

Cuboid Syndrome Treatment:

ATHLETE'S FOOT TREATMENT:
Athlete's foot can be treated locally with antifungal creams, sprays, liquids and powders that are available from your pharmacist without a prescription.

Topical antifungals include Terbinafine, Miconazole and Clotrimazole. Treatment should be used as directed by your pharmacist and should be continued for two weeks after the symptoms have disappeared to ensure the infection has been treated effectively.

WHEN TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR WITH ATHLETE'S FOOT:
• Treatments from a pharmacy don't work
• You're in a lot of discomfort
• Your foot is red, hot and painful – this could be a more serious infection
• You have diabetes – foot problems can be more serious if you have diabetes
• You have a weakened immune system – for example, you have had an organ transplant or are having chemotherapy
• If you are pregnant antifungal medication may not be suitable for you and you should make an appointment with your doctor to find out the best way to treat your athlete’s foot.

PREVENT GETTING & SPREADING ATHLETE'S FOOT:
There are really easy ways to avoid athlete's foot keeping your feet clean and dry is one of the most important prevention tips because fungi love warm and moist places.

• There’s no point treating your feet from athlete's foot if you constantly re-infect them by putting them into damp, fungal infected footwear. So change them on a regular basis and don’t wear the same footwear every day have a few pairs of work shoes and gym trainers so you can rotate.

• I have 3 pairs of work shoes that I rotate through during the weeks this is super important as it takes 24-48 hours for shoes to dry out properly so alternate and it will help.

• If you really have to wear the same footwear day after day, let’s say you're on holiday. Then dry them out using a hair dryer on a cold setting, taking the insoles out can also help them dry quicker.

• Another tip is to make sure your footwear isn’t too tight, if its too tight your toes are going to be squeezed together which encourages heat, sweating and fungus.

• Flip flops wear them in the bathroom and in public showers, pools, hot tubs, changing rooms basically wherever you may walk barefoot. It’s going to ensure you don't shed skin around for others to pick up but also stop you picking up other species of fungus. Also never wear anyone else's footwear.

Los 12 miembros del jurado popular del caso Stormy Daniels, la primera causa penal de las cuatro que afronta, han declarado al expresidente y candidato republicano Donald Trump culpable en el juicio en que se le juzgaba por falsificar registros contables para encubrir el pago de un soborno a la actriz con fines electorales. Ha sido declarado culpable de los 34 delitos de que se le acusaba por la unanimidad de los 12 miembros del jurado requerida para alcanzarse un veredicto. “Soy un hombre muy inocente”, ha dicho Trump al salir del juzgado, retando a los ciudadanos al juicio de las urnas en las presidenciales del 5 de noviembre.

Trump se convierte en el primer expresidente de Estados Unidos condenado en un juicio penal. La sentencia llega a poco más de cinco meses de las elecciones presidenciales y suponen un terremoto en el panorama político estadounidense. Aunque buena parte de los seguidores de Trump decían que seguirían apoyándole aunque fuera declarado culpable, se trata de una situación sin precedentes y la reacción del electorado es imprevisible.

Una vez establecida la culpabilidad por parte del jurado, ahora es el juez el que tiene que imponer la sentencia. Está previsto que se dicte el 11 de julio. Los medios presentes en la sala indican que Trump se ha quedado sin respuesta, como petrificado en el banquillo, tras escuchar el veredicto. Al salir del tribunal se ha mostrado combativo y desafiante en una comparecencia de poco más de dos minutos ante los medios en la que no ha admitido preguntas.
